Story
I am going to work in Nepal as a community mobiliser for two years. I will be working on an inspiring project: 'Sister for Sisters' helping marginalised girls go to school. Older girls (Big Sisters) mentor younger girls alongside community 'Adult Champions' to ensure girls attend school. A nine month bridging course is also provided to help girls and boys who have either dropped out or not attended school, to catch up.
Ensuring girls can access education helps break the cycle of poverty: educated women are less likely to marry early; less likely to die in childbirth; more likely to have healthy babies; and are more likely to send their children to school.
Anything you can give to help VSO continue to send volunteers to 32 of the world's least developed countries will be gratefully received. £20 keeps a volunteer midwife in Sierra Leone for a week, £150 will keep someone like me in Nepal for one month.
I will keep you updated as my adventure unfolds- watch this space. I hope to set up a blog for children to read to share my experiences.
