Story
I am a longstanding supporter and fundraiser for the Iraqi Association's IraqChild project. Back in 2013 I did a 120 mile sponsored cycle ride and in 2014 I did a 31 mile sponsored walk, both for IraqChild, raising thousands of pounds for the cause. My other fundraising includes a walk I did last year along the Thames Path to the river's source near Kemble, which raised nearly £2,800 for the Chingari Children's Centre at Bhopal, India.
A year later, aged 77, I’m still fit and rearing to go! This July I’m planning to walk along the Thames Path in the other direction, going downstream to Temple Island which is just beyond Henley.
My route (approximately 57 miles) divides neatly into eight sections. I shall accomplish each day as a separate entity, i.e. not staying overnight, as public transport in the Thames Valley is good.
In doing this walk, I hope to raise money for one of my favourite causes, IraqChild. Growing up amidst so much destruction and violence, can Iraqi children ever have been in greater need than they are now?
It would be wonderful if you could join me in helping to contribute to the cost of running the Children’s Educational Resource Centre in Baghdad, and the charity’s two mobile clinics.
Thank you!
