Story

On the 11th May 2018 I embarked on my first ever park run. It was something that I’d never really contemplated going to being the least enthusiastic and able runner (despite that being the main exercise I do!). I knew I needed to get my fitness back up after having my baby girl ready for my work fitness test, but that was insignificant for my motivation.

Only a week after my precious daughter was born, Lexi arrived. Same hospital, same wing, only a week later. Lexi however, didn't get to spend much time at home with to her loving family before she was rushed to Great Ormand Street Hospital. 36 hours later after Lexi was born, her family had to do something I will never be able to contemplate, they said goodbye to Lexi, a darling angel whose life was too precious to stay on earth and was needed in heaven.

I never met Lexi, or her many of her family but her life impacted my first day at Parkrun. I knew I wanted to do something to continue Lexi’s legacy, and I knew it had to be something that would be hard, and tough for me to do, something that would share the struggle that Sophie and Andrew live with day in day out. On the 11th May 2019 I will be running my 50th Park Run. It still doesn’t come easy, and each Saturday morning that 5km is still a struggle, but every step Lexi is there, in my mind, in my legs in my motivation, knowing that this 10k would be my goal. 10k is not a marathon. To some, 10k is a warm up, but to me, it’s my marathon. And this marathon, darling Lexi is for you, for your legacy. Every step.
