Story
After Dad passed away from a brain tumour in December 2019, I wanted to do something challenging in his memory and to give myself some time to reflect.
I thought about a long bike ride and even better, Mum was going to follow me up the country in the family campervan to support. An added bonus was neither of us had been to Scotland and had often spoken about visiting one day.
Covid delayed the trip and then life had yet another plan for our family. After falling ill from lung cancer in October, Mum passed away far too young in January 2022.
My sister Bryony and I have long flown the nest, but the family house in Winchester was also home to our Grandmother Janet and Mum’s Bossypoo Beattie 🐾
Extraordinarily difficult and painful circumstances meant Grandma had to go into a new living situation and our small hairy sister Beattie has at least found a new loving home within the family. It’s hard to find the words to describe our situation, I’m sure it hasn’t sunk in yet for either of us, our partners, Grandma, our aunties, uncles, family and all the other very special people who knew them.
So on May 28th, I will endeavour to complete my ride in memory of our amazing parents and try to raise some funds and awareness for the incredible facility on our doorstep. We can’t thank the team at the Winchester Hospice and RHCH enough for all they did for Mum, Dad and our family.
Thank you again to all the other awesome people who are carrying us through these toughest of times. You know who you are ❤️
Will make you both proud! Maybe you could pick me up Bry? 😅 My bum hurts already 🚴🏼
