CELEBRATING STEWART TIPPETT AND THE HISTORY OF SOUL
October 6th would have been Stewart Tippett’s 68th birthday. A remarkable man with a remarkable history, Stewart had a passionate interest in the history of Black music and a record collection that reflected it. His research is reflected in many compilations of rare music released under the banner of History Of Soul Records, and before that in lovingly compiled tapes that he made for local musicians that he worked with.
In celebration of his birthday and of his life, starting at 9pm at Global Cafe, London Street, Reading, RG1 4PS, Nick Duckett, long-time friend and his partner in History Of Soul, and Brendan O’Leary, another long- time friend and contributor to the project, will chat about their work together and play some tracks of the great music they discovered. Later you will have the chance to dance the night away to live music, including from the ESPECIALLY REUNITED Backbeat Band, and to tracks by Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green and other artists that Stewart loved.
Free entry on the door, but everyone is encouraged to make a donation. The charity we’ve chosen is Youth Music - a national charity investing in music-making projects for children and young people experiencing challenging circumstances. Donations can be made here,
or by text to 70070 quoting STEW06 with amount to donate
or by chucking some change into the bucket on the night!
We hope you can come along, and look forward to catching up and remembering together Stewart and his amazing life.
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
