CARE International is a humanitarian organisation leading the fight to end poverty in the world’s most challenging situations. Women and girls are at the centre of our work, because we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities.

Story

We will be joining the ranks of about 180 GSK cyclists who have already participated in the GSK UK Sites Cycle 2012Km Relay – Gold Challenge, in the final leg.  We’re cycling in aid of Care International.

On 6 May a team of GSK cyclists left Montrose and cycled to Irvine carrying a Gold Challenge ‘baton’. And every weekend since then – successive teams of GSK cyclists have carried the baton through wind, rain, heat up & down dale to every UK site – relay style. Montrose-Irvine-Ulverston-Barnard Castle-Ware-Slough-Coleford-Worthing-Weybridge-Maidenhead- Stockley Park-Stevenage...

The baton is at currently at Stevenage, and this weekend (22 July) is the last leg of this epic challenge when it travels from Stevenage to Harlow in the morning and Harlow to FINISH at GSK House in the afternoon (the final day of the Tour de France – go Bradley! – and the weekend before the Olympics start).

So far the cycle relay has raised £11,543 for charity (96% toward our £12020 target) – that’s 1/7 of the total amount raised by all GSK Gold Challenges and we rank in the top 2 fundraisers of all the UK team Gold Challenges for all Companies.

Support of our colleague, Lindsay Oakes who conceived of the cycle relay and has coordinated all our efforts, even though he’s not one to shout about it!

Awe of my friends and colleagues, who cycle hundreds of miles every week on their commutes and live and breathe cycling as an everyday part of life.

Respect of GSK, who encourages us to get involved with charity work in their Making a Difference scheme where the charity of our choice receives a financial contribution from GSK.

So, please take a few minutes to sponsor the GSK Gold Challenge Cycle Relay team!  And huge thanks if you’ve done so already!!!
