Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I’m raising money for WasteAid UK on November 25th/26th 2017 by carrying a wheelie bin – christened BOB (Bob stands for Big Orange Bin!) up a mountain. The mountain is Helvellyn – England’s third highest - and I plan to do it via Striding Edge – a soaring narrow razorback ridge which leads directly to the summit. It’s not for the fainthearted and if it’s windy an alternative route may be used as I don’t particularly fancy sailing off into the wide blue yonder!
Why!? Well, it’s because I’ve spent most of my career in waste and the UK is very lucky to have incredibly good waste management services. However, half the world’s waste isn’t properly managed leading to disease, pollution and climate change. The impacts on people around the globe can be dreadful and the world’s oceans are filling up with our rubbish!
WasteAid UK works in developing countries helping people to turn their waste into useful stuff, creating economic opportunities, healthier communities, cleaner oceans, and a better world for everyone. This has to be a good thing!
Their work is inspirational and I’ve wanted to go on their annual ‘Walk for Waste’ fundraising walk for the past couple of years but not managed it. That’s why I’ve decided to do my own mad challenge to raise some money for them as part of Waste Aid Week (20 – 26 November 2017).
Please support me and WasteAid – they do some great work around the globe to tackle a long overlooked environmental and social issue of staggering enormity.
