Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Help us raise money to generate positive action on climate change, by donating to The Glacier Trust. 100% of the money raised will go to their projects in Nepal. Not too long ago the people at The Glacier Trust (TGT) came up with the idea to host a volleyball tour in Nepal.
Why volleyball? Well, it’s one of the most popular sports in Nepal, children play in schools and locals play it in village squares all over the country. Thus, came the idea to assemble a group of volleyball players to travel from London to Nepal in February 2019 on a volleyball tour. Partnering with Gary Beckford’s VolleyFirst organisation and All Nations Volleyball Tournament to make it happen, a group of 8 volunteers was formed.
Our journey
We will travel with TGT staff and volunteers to Deurali to visit their Climate Change Adaptation project work in Durlunga, Dhahaba and Sarakun. Whilst doing so, we’ll get to enjoy some friendly games with the local volleyball teams in each village.
In the build-up to the tour, we will be running some small activities to help raise funds and spread awareness about TGT and what they do. These activities include; a sponsored walk, as well as a volleyball fund raising event, where all our volleyball friends (that’s YOU) and non-volleyball friends (also YOU plus YOUR friends and family) can come together to celebrate the beautiful sport by playing games. I will be shaving my head, eating ants and grasshoppers and maybe some worms, singing on park benches and lots more, but you will have to donate.
Here’s a little more about The Glacier Trust.
TGT celebrates its 10thanniversary this year. It is run by two Co-Directors and four trustees, Dr Morgan Phillips being one of the Co-Directors, (he has been working with the charity since 2016) is responsible for running the tour. The charity works with local organisations to enable adaptation to climate change, they do this in a number of ways, firstly by providing equipment to aid with practical tailored solutions, i.e. tools to put new agriculture methods into practice, cooking stove to help improve home life and the environment, irrigation and water management systems for farmers and much more.
They work at grass-roots level to upskill members of the remote villages, training young adults and the next generation to become glaciologists and climate change adaptation experts. Aiming to improve the lives of communities living with the effects of climate change. Alongside this, the charity works hard to raise awareness and transform lives.
Our aim is to raise £4,000 to support the project work in the villages we’ll be visiting. We would appreciate your kind donation to help reach or even exceed our target. Again, 100% of the money raised will be spent in Deurali!
We will be keeping a blog to keep you updated on our journey, so watch this space for more details.
