Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
6/9/10: The day after the ride and happy to report that the four of us who started, all made it the fully 60 miles and in a good time too ( less than 5 hours total riding time !). Thanks to all who have supported our efforts by donating on-line ( donations still very welcome even if after the event !)
Legs very sore all round today ( Ken says his are fine but he'll suffer at some point soon) - there are a lot more hills between London and Cambridge than you would think !
We are joining the Gaucher Association's cycle ride in September and hope you can support us. This is something of a challenge for our mostly 40-something group, who don't usually get on a bike, let alone ride 60 miles between London and Cambridge ! We hope we can last the distance and hope that you can support us, even if in only a small way to make all the likely suffering worthwhile !
The Gaucher Association has done a great deal for patients suffering with this disease over the years, mainly under its own steam and volunteer resources. However for the first time, the Association is looking to others to help with a major event and we'd like to try to do our bit.
Gaucher Disease is a genetic disorder, which if unrecognised and untreated can lead to major consequences for the patients, pain, extreme fatigue, massively swollen liver & spleen and also significant bone problems. Patients can require multiple joint replacements at early ages. The Gaucher Association has led the way in pressing for treatment and once an effective treatment was found, ensuring it is available and funded. They have been a mainly volunteer group and even now have just a few officers, many who are directly affected by Gauchers within their families.
