Story
Many thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
You must think we are all mad! But when something like this happens, us Gazes aren't very good at just sitting around.
In April this year we lost our wonderful nephew & cousin, Caspar at the age of 22. Every year 1,100 people die as a result of epilepsy, but in over 50% of cases no one knows why. Caspar never let epilepsy define him as a person even though he and his twin brother Milo have suffered from epilepsy their whole lives. He was the most determined young man and we want to steal some of that determination to help us get through this challenge.
You might be aware that our family is split over 2 continents at the moment. So us English Gazes (yes.. even Mama G!) and Poppy's boyfriend Rian (who's sister was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 30) will be running the Oxford Half Marathon on October 8th, whilst our Aussie Gaze takes on the Sydney Marathon on September 17th. All of our fundraising will go to Epilepsy Research, in Caspar's memory.
Epilepsy Research UK supports and promotes basic and clinical scientific research into the causes, treatments and prevention of epilepsy. They supports the work of scientists and clinicians throughout the UK, who are investigating all aspects of epilepsy in both adults and children. They are especially looking at what causes epilepsy, who is at risk of developing it, what goes on in the brain during a seizure, and safer drugs and better surgical techniques to treat it.
Please give as much or as little as you can. Nothing will spur us on more than knowing we have made a difference and have been able to support people who have been recently diagnosed or are continuously suffering with epilepsy.
