Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Here we go again.... another 13.1 mile run for a very worthy cause. This will be my second time taking part in the Great North Run and I cant wait to get there (honest) and raise some money.
As many of you reading this page will know, I work at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust and have done so for the past two years. As you can imagine, there are so many areas in the Trust where extra funds would help towards improving the patient experience in some way so, it was quite the challenge (training aside) to pick something specific.
I have decided to run for the Golden Leaves Appeal. This is a special appeal, launched by the Trust's Charity, Health Tree Foundation, and is aimed at helping people living with and caring for those with dementia.
The initial aim of the appeal is to raise £15,000 to buy two state-of-the-art pieces of equipment which will provide vital stimulation for dementia patients. I would love to be able to contribute towards this.
The screens are 22” touch screen units, pre-loaded with software which can be used by patients or with nurses/therapists/carers to engage them with a wide variety of activities including relaxation music, BBC archive clips, photos, interactive games, famous speeches and much more. It also has an easily utilised ‘life collage or life story book’ facility, which can be completed with relatives to further personalise care.
The Alzheimers Society state that, currently, 1 in 6 people over the age of 80 have dementia. Most of us know someone who is living with dementia so if you would like to support this wonderful appeal and help contribute towards this amazing equipment for our dementia patients, please donate today!!
