The Big Jump
Campaign by Beat (RCN 801343)
On Saturday 6 October, hundreds of brave fundraisers will skydive together to help end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders.

Story

On Saturday 6th October I will be taking part in a Skydive jump in aid of Beat, the UK's eating disorders charity which aims to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses that affect 1.25 million people across the UK with Anorexia having the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. With an average wait of three and a half years for specialist treatment, beat is an amazing charity that offer free services 365 days a year to help sufferers. Many avoid seeking help from loved ones in order to shelter them from the pain and worry an eating disorder causes. Beat gives a safe and friendly environment for sufferers to speak about their issues with an adviser, helping them to tackle difficult thoughts and feelings when they have no one else to talk too.

Having experienced Anorexia first hand and having spent 6 months hospitalised, beat is something very close to my heart and do something so special. Without the help of specialist treatment I would not be in the place I am in today and so with such a long waiting time to receive treatment, beat could be the one to save someones life. Eating disorders are hard to recover from. Eating when your head is screaming at you that you don't deserve too is a constant battle. you become a shell of a person with no expression or energy and your whole life becomes revolved around food. What I have learnt is that as hard as it is to overcome the intrusive thoughts that an eating disorders brings it is 100% possible. I am now so much less consumed by anorexia and have the ability to take part in activities that I want to do rather than being controlled by my thoughts. When i first started recovery I could not see a way out of my illness and thought that this was going to be my future. I am so proud to say that i am now in a place where I am working and waiting to start university in September, to help people the way that i have been helped. Never did I think that this would be a possibility. Recovery is the hardest thing I have ever had to face but by taking one day at a time you don't have to take it into your future. it will be a long journey but I believe recovery is possible for anyone.

Any donations, however big or small, would be greatly appreciated. By raising this money you and I will be able to help someone who is struggling on their own and help to change their lives.
