hit the headlines around the world in 1994 with its terrible genocide. Now 15 years on it is peaceful but still suffering the consequences and is one of the poorest countries in the world, with nearly 87% of the population living on just £1 a day. Following the end of the war and the 1994 genocide 810,000 children in have been orphaned and nearly 15% of all children now live in child-headed households.

Once again, my company Turner Broadcasting (the Company behind CNN, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, TCM etc) is working with Plan International to build a school as experience tells us that education is one of the most important ways of helping communities work their way out of poverty. I am fundraising with 19 others to pay for the three new classrooms of in the Gatsibo district which we are personally going to help build in February 2010. Currently the children are studying in very poor structures that are near collapsing. We are funding the trip expenses between us and now we need your help to provide money to build the school and buy the equipment.

I know times are hard for everyone right now but please think of those who have absolutely nothing at all. For the kids we will be helping going to school with a roof over their head is an absolute luxury, something they can only aspire to.
