Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As I'm sure you are aware, my wife Teresa sadly passed away at the beginning of the year after a long battle with cancer. This has prompted me to raise as much money as I possibly can for St. Catherine's Hospice to say thank you for all of the help and support they have given us over so many years. Teresa first began to use the services that the hospice provided after she was treated for breast cancer 12 years ago as she regularly went to see the lymphoedema nurse. Unfortunately, after a long period of remission, she was diagnosed with lung cancer 3 years ago. In her final few months, this spread throughout her bones and brain and she began to receive palliative care from the hospice. After Christmas, she was in need of even more care so became an in-patient at the hospice. Teresa spent the majority of January in the hospice and sadly died on the 30th January. During all of these incredibly difficult times, the wonderful people at the hospice have been there for us, helping, supporting and caring for us. Words cannot describe how well Teresa was looked after in her final few weeks - nothing was ever too much. This support extended to our whole family and meant a great deal to all of us. There is simply no way of repaying St.Catherines for everything they did for Teresa over so many years. However, I have begun to try by volunteering as a gardener and a collector. This contact with the hospice enabled me to find out about large fundraising project that is taking place next year - a trek through Vietnam. I have now committed myself to this in memory of Teresa and as a way of raising as much money as possible for the hospice. I will be walking about 100km in total across Vietnam. I have already begun to train for this in order to make sure I am up to it - particularly my knees! My goal is to be able to give something back to the hospice for everything they have done for us. I would really appreciate it if you could help me do this by sponsoring me. No amount is too small as all of the pennies add up. I promise to let you know how I get on with the trek which will take place in April 2016.
