Story
The day finally arrived and I did it!
On Sunday 24th June 2012 I ran the 'Race for the Kids' in Battersea Park, London, my first 5k run, in aid of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSHCC).
I'd like to offer a huge thanks to all of you that sponsored me and helped raise the great amount of money shown on this Just Giving page - so far!
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is an inspirational place of immense skill, care and hope. The staff have cared for my Nephew Finley (pictured below) so well during what has been a very challenging first year of his life after being diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome at the tender age of 24 hours!
GOSH has since performed three rounds of Open Heart Surgery on Finley who is now making good progress whilst at the same time caring for the whole family through the supply of accommodation for them all in London through the darkest days of 2011.
So, the 2012 Race for the Kids was Uncle Grant's first formal race ever and an attempt to raise money in order to give a little back to a hospital that has been marvellous in all it has done and will no doubt continue to do so for my Nephew and many more children in the future.
All of the money I have raised as part of this personal challenge will go towards redeveloping the hospital. Without this redevelopment project, advances in technology and treatments would not be so readily translated into real improvements in the care of sick children.
I realise that the race was certainly not the London Marathon but any donations even now to my cause would be very welcome.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Once again, thank you all for your most generous sponsorship. The GOSHCC, a very worthy charity, will benefit enormously.
Grant
