Story

FINAL EDITION, GREAT NORTH RUN, 30TH SEPTEMBER 2007.

It only took me 2 hours 39.28 minutes, nicely under my 2007 target of 2.45. Couldn't quite make my intended 2008 target of 2.30, but not so far away!

Knocked a whopping 27 minutes off last year's time (that was so slowwwwww), felt really good, and could have gone another few miles. Bringing me back to earth, one of Diana's dancing friends did it 10 minutes quicker, and he's 80, so I've some ground to make up!

This year I saw the end of the Red Arrows display over the seafront - last year they were in the far distance. I didn't get cramp, blisters, or blackouts. I drank loads en route. I left many fun runners behind, finishing in 29,990th place, a big improvement on last year's 34,518. Next year I'll aim to be in the first 25,000.

At long last, a good photo, showing determination to overtake supposedly faster green numbered runners, having started in the pink section at the back of the grid! The official photographer got 21 pictures of the tiger I was just about to pass, but only the one of me.

To prove I crossed the Tyne Bridge, see bottom right-hand corner of this one; http://media.greatrun.org/asset-bank/files/32/NAAB7259.jpg

Many thanks to all who've already supported me with such generous sponsorship. Also to Diana and Ian for following me round on the day - think it was harder work for them - and to all who gave me such encouragement at work and elsewhere. Knowing there were friends and colleagues out on the course spurred me on, even if I did come last - this year!

I've heard a few colleagues wondering if they might do it next year - watch this space - maybe a team effort in 2008?

Clear sight is such a blessing, especially when you've been threatened with it's loss. RNIB do so much to help those with impaired vision, so anyone who hasn't already done so, please dig deep and sponsor me online. I've just beaten the £1000 raised last year, to which Abbey added £500 making £1500. Abbey Charitable Trust have matched the first £700 I raised in 2007, so I  needed to top £1700.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RNIB will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

The site will remain open until 30th November. Then to prepare for 2008. Many thanks once again for all your support.

Chris
