Story
Wednesday 22 January at 26 weeks + 4 days, Denise and I welcomed our boys Harrison and Callum into the world, we felt so lucky that both arrived safely and healthy, albeit small, weighing only 2lbs and 2lb 1oz. Visiting the neonatal unit everyday and seeing tiny babies in intensive care became the norm for us.
Sadly 17 days after they were born our luck ran out, we lost Harrison to Nec, there was no reason why he got it other than it was common in extreme prematurity and he was just one of the unlucky ones. Our world stopped but we had to stay strong for Callum, who we finally brought home at the end of April and is a very happy and healthy wee boy..
During our time in the neonatal unit, we got to know the nurses (we’ve witnessed first hand that they are actual heroes) so well they became like a family to us and we felt so lucky our boys were in such good care.
I am running in Harrison’s memory and looking to give back to Simpson’s Special Care Babies who looked after all 5 of us during this difficult time. Any donation no matter how small goes a long way in helping care for premature/ill babies and their families and is greatly appreciated.
