Story
On 9th October 2010, three teams from 'Bootcamp' (http://www.personal-trainer-reading.net/default.asp?id=128&name=Boot%20Camp%20Fitness - I'm the one in the middle doing sit-ups!) are attempting the Marine Commando Challenge. This is a 10k course incorporating the world famous Royal Marines Endurance training course - still used today as a training facility for new recruits.
The Commando Challenge was first held 20 years ago as a Charity event. The fundraising element is still integral today and last year the event raised over £300k for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
This year all funds raised will be split between the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and The C Group. The C Group (http://www.thecgroup.org/) is a military charity founded in May 2008 to raise awareness and generate practical support for Royal Marines, particularly those who are suffering the long-term effects of injuries sustained on operations.
If the worthiness of these two charities is not enough, there will also be a trophy for the best fundraising team on the day. Given that we won't be the fastest team, this is the one that I'm aiming for!
I was part of a Bootcamp team in last year's Commando Challenge - it was huge amounts of fun, but a lot of hard work. To see how we got on, have a look here:
