We’re setting up a new home – just not for us!

We are very aware of how lucky we are. Twenty-five years of sharing our lives together, building up a lovely home, surrounded by friends and family who love and support us.

Many LGBT people around the world don’t have that freedom. We were both born In East Africa – Harry in Uganda, Pete in Malawi – and we know how different life could have looked. In Uganda someone loving someone of the same sex faces life imprisonment. In twelve countries in the world, homosexuality can still be punishable by death.

Micro Rainbow International are a fabulous small UK charity who set up safe houses for LGBT refugees and asylum seekers; people who have managed to escape persecution because of their sexuality, and are now setting up a new life in the UK. So, as part of our celebrations, we are going to furnish a whole four-bedroom safe house, a new home for those who desperately need it. The total cost will be just over £3,000 - there’s a full set of items below that the charity have told us will be required - and we would love you to help us. £5 will buy a place setting of crockery; £20 will buy a kettle or a duvet; £40 will buy a five-piece pan set or a bedside drawer unit; £60 will buy a vacuum cleaner; £75 will get a comfy armchair; £150 will buy a double bed or an orthopaedic mattress for someone who has fled persecution and who can finally curl up in safety… We don’t need any of these things for ourselves. With your help, we can get them for those who have yet to have the same chances that we have: to love who they want to love; to live a life proud of who they are; to have the support and freedom to finally be everything they can be.
