Story

I’m delighted and proud to be a part of the British Blind Sport (BBS) team running London to raise lots of money for this incredible charity that changes and enriches the lives of so many visually impaired people in the UK. I learnt first hand how participation in sport can improve the wellbeing of those with sight loss when our incredible friend Lizzie joined our run club at a time when her mental health had hit rock bottom. She astounded all of us with her strength, determination and achievements in running, all done with a massive grin on her face. Lizzie died in 2020 and we will always miss her dreadfully, so I run these 26.2 miles in her memory. Please read more about this amazing cause below and then donate!!

BBS is the UK's only national sport and physical activity charity specifically for blind and partially sighted children and adults. There are more than 2 million people with sight loss in the UK and 350,000 people have sight loss that is severe enough to have a significant impact on their daily lives. People with sight loss are more likely to experience loneliness and nearly half report feeling isolated and cut-off from society. BBS uses the power of sport to change the lives of people with sight loss and support them in leading more active, independent and healthy lives. Only 12% of people with sight loss regularly take part in regular physical activity yet more than 62% want to take part in sport but experience barriers due to their disability. At BBS, we know that physical activity has the huge potential to transform the health and wellbeing of people with sight loss.
