Berkshire East and South Bucks Womens Aid - FIREWALK CHALLENGE! I will walk barefoot over red hot embers smouldering at over 1200°F and achieve the seemingly impossible! After a short safety brief by the Fire Master on how to walk on fire safely and how to get in 'the right frame of mind' I will remove my shoes and socks, and with my pulse racing I will place my foot on top of these red hot coals, defying every bit of instinct and common sense I have! I'm pretty sure the fear I will feel when on the brink of the firewalk will be incredible but the only thing that will stop me going through with it is if there is a heavy downpour on the night! Defying all my natural instincts that are telling me to stay put will be a real challenge and as I'm not one for exercising my stupidity futilely, I thought I'd grab this fantastic opportunity to raise some well needed funds for a very worthwhile cause. Any amount you can give would be incredible - no matter how small - the charity needs every penny to continue carrying out it's invaluable work! If you would like to come along and witness for yourself the challenge, it will take place at 8pm on 15th May 2010 at The Bird in Hand County Inn, Knowl Hill, RG10. Spectator tickets are £15 and include a BBQ and drink. Thank you in advance for your donation. If you don't have time to donate now please use the reminder link on the bottom left of this page to donate later. If you are still unsure whether to donate please take a few moments just to read a little about the charity below! xxx About East and South Bucks Women’s Aid Berkshire East & South Bucks Women's Aid is a registered charity with over 30 years experience of providing specialist support to victims of domestic abuse. They strive to provide safety, support and sanctuary to victims of Domestic Abuse within our local communities and raise awareness around an unpopular subject, campaigning for zero-tolerance for abuse within families. Alongside refuge provision and personalised support for up to 13 families at any one time, the charity also provides Outreach and Advocacy support to individuals for which refuge is not an option. They will help victims consider their options, safety plan and eventually rediscover their self-belief and independence. 2 Women a week are murdered by a current or former partner and in last year there were 5841 recorded incidents of Domestic Abuse. It wrecks the lives of both adults and children and the charity provides a unique, confidential and independent service to over 500 local families a year. They provide a 24-hour helpline, specialist support to children and have just launched the new male advisory service. They rely heavily on local community support, fundraising, donations and volunteers to continue providing their current level of service. Please help them raise much needed funds for their charity – you will be helping to change and save lives. The service supports male and female victims of domestic abuse. To access the service you can call the confidential freephone helpline on 0800 0852 654 and one of the team will arrange to complete assessment paperwork with you so they can assess the best way in which they can support you.
