Story
In January of next year I plan to join a small group of people undertaking a challenging six day ride across the Waterberg region of South Africa, crossing seven game reserves to finish at Jembisa on the the Palala River. We will be spending 8 hours a day in the saddle covering some 200 km. It will be hot, dusty and exhausting - and right now, with a broken ankle, all but impossible!!
A rhino is killed every 8 hours in South Africa, and despite international campaigns to raise awareness, rhino populations are still at critically endangered levels. Poachers hunt them down with increasingly sophisticated technology and hardware and their numbers are dwindling rapidly. The Waterberg Trust supports the vital work to save the Waterberg Rhino. Investment in keeping the rhino safe brings greater security and wellbeing to the local community which in turn benefits health and education in the area. It is vital to protect this rural haven and its wildlife before it is too late.
The Trust also supports important local community health, welfare and education projects in the area which we plan to visit en route. 50% of funds raised will go to Save the Waterberg Rhino and 50% will go to help with these community projects, many of which are linked with rhino conservation. We are paying for the expedition and all expenses ourselves, so 100% of any donations you might kindly make will go to the charity. With many thanks indeed, Henry x
