Story
Hi All,
After a cumulative three quarters of a year of furlough, and a distinct lack of purpose or goals, I've decided to overcompensate by challenging myself to run a half marathon on my birthday (like an idiot).
As well as doing this for my own sense of achievement, I thought I would also use it to raise some money for a worthy cause. This year has been difficult for us all, with many people struggling with feelings of anxiety, loneliness & isolation, but for members of the Deaf community, this year has been particularly challenging. With the wide-spread introduction of masks in public buildings, the restrictions on gatherings, and general challenges in accessing community amenities, for those who rely heavily on face-to-face communication and in person contact and support, feelings of isolation and vulnerability can be much more acute.
SignHealth is a charity doing great work supporting Deaf adults & Deaf people with additional needs, helping with their mental health wellbeing & access to community facilities, offering counselling, support, outreach & advocacy.
It would be great if I could raise a little bit of money to help them carry on their good work :)
