Story

Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Intensive Treatment Unit at Hereford County Hospital looks after patients whose medical condition is deemed critical. The skill and dedication of their staff is often a patient's last chance of survival...the difference between life and death.

On 13th June 2009, my father Ghassan was rushed to Hereford County Hospital following a heart attack. Sadly, he died a few hours later. He was 59 years old.

The clinical staff did everything they could to save his life, and to comfort our family afterwards. We will always be grateful to them for their efforts, even though in this case, it sadly wasn't to be.

Had he survived his heart attack, my father would have been 60 on 19th October 2009. As a gesture of thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Intensive Therapy Unit, I'm running the Coventry Half Marathon on 25th October 2009...less than a week after his birthday.

I'm not aiming to complete the course in any particular time; simply getting over the finishing line and knowing the money raised is going to a valuable service is quite enough for me.

Many thanks,

Salem.
