Story

In 2018 our school community was rocked by the
sudden death of a much loved member of our community, Russ Devereux. Founded in
memory of Russ, the Headlight Project was set up to teach children about mental
health, providing support and help for adults and working in collaboration with
other organisations to deliver emotional resilience workshops, and one to one
counselling. The Headlight Project has a particular focus in supporting
individuals and families who have been affected by suicide.

In 2019, we undertook the National 3 Peaks
challenge raising £15,000 for the Headlight Project.

The global pandemic and subsequent lockdowns
have seen the growing rise in suicide, particularly in younger people, once
again bringing mental health to the forefront of everyone’s mind. Therefore, in
order to continue raising awareness and support the Headlight Project, as a
school we have decided to undertake an even greater challenge…. THE YORKSHIRE 6
PEAKS – there and back again!

As part of our training for the National 3
Peaks, we completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks (as Russ had done in 2017). This
gruelling challenge was described by some of our team as being more difficult
than the Nationals. To raise money for the Headlight Project, we intend to once
again walk the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, then turn around and walk all the way back
again! This 50 mile trek will see us climb a combined total of over 14,000ft.
We will be completing this with no rest, no sleep, in less than 20 hours.

Your support will be invaluable in not only
helping us reach our ultimate goal of beating our previous amount raised, but
more importantly in helping vulnerable children and families, many of whom have
had their lives affected by suicide. Please give whatever you can.
