***FINAL STOP PRESS Saturday 16th September*** Day 9 out of 9….After 184 miles, we reached the Thames Barrier at 4.45pm. Legs are in bits, but a great sense of achievement, and a really tremendous contribution to Richard House Children’s Hospice. A huge thank you again to all our friends and sponsors for remembering Theodora in this very special way.
***STOP PRESS Thursday 14th September*** Day 7 Ouch…definitely a challenge for the legs, but 135 miles completed, and still on track to reach the Thames Barrier by Saturday afternoon.
***STOP PRESS Monday 11th September*** Day 4 and all going very well so far – great enthusiasm and resilience from fellow walkers, blue skies, mentions in Sunday Telegraph and local press, and blister kits doing the trick. Many thanks again to all involved.
***STOP PRESS Thursday 7th September*** Thank you all for your incredible generosity; it means so much to us to have already raised almost £10,000 for Richard House Hospice, with more sponsorship promised on completion of the walk. This really is a great achievement, thanks to you. The walk is beginning tomorrow (Friday 8th) and I will keep you posted on this site about our progress. Blister kits are in hand...
Rory
On December 13th last year, my 2 year old niece, Theodora, died in a tragic accident. The lives of my sister, Fiona, and brother in law, Chris, will never be the same again. We all think of Theodora every day, and cannot comprehend why she has been taken away, her life so foreshortened and unfulfilled.
Nothing will bring Theodora back, but if we can raise money for charity through her memory, her spirit will live on.
Fiona and Chris have been greatly touched by the dedication and love which the Richard House hospice (www.richardhouse.org.uk) offers children who, like Theodora, tragically will not have the opportunity to reach adulthood.
In support of Richard House, Fiona and I will be walking the full stretch of the Thames Path, starting on 8th September at the source in Kemble, Gloucestershire, and aiming to reach the Thames Barrier at Greenwich in 9 days, a total distance of 184 miles.
We would be delighted not only for anyone to sponsor us in this endeavour, but also to join us on any stretch of the walk. Please get in touch and I will forward the full daily itinerary.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Richard House Trust will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
Very many thanks in advance for your support,
Rory
