I became so distraught when I became aware of the fact that there are a high percentage of girls in India who are literally sentenced to death because they are girls.  They are subjected to certain death thru abortion, strangulation, being poisoned, discarded in garbage bins (some are eaten alive by dogs), and being neglected/starved. Instead of focusing on the problem and trying not to become overwhelmed with despair, I tried to think of solutions or ways that I could help and make an positive impact. Thru research, I learned of the Unique Home for Girls in Punjab. 

This charity hits close to home for me - I have two beautiful daughters, whom I adore more than life itself. I could not fathom being forced to abandon or kill these gifts from god just because they are girls. Unique Home for Girls gives these unfortunate mothers another option - to at least leave them at this home so they have a chance to live and not be automatically sentenced to death.
