We provide life-saving protection to at-risk human rights defenders

Story

As most of you guys know, Emily is off to Guatemala for a year to work with Human Rights Defenders in the country, with the charity she works for, PBI.

Human rights defenders across the world, and in particular Latin America, face harassment, persecution and increasingly violence from paramilitary groups and state actors.

Last year, I had the chance to meet two  incredibly brave and inspiring defenders, supported by PBI, Cristina and Esmeralda from Mexico. We made a short film about their work, which you can see here: https://www.blackbird-film.com/pasta-de-conchos-the-struggle-for-survival.

PBI in their own words: PBI has been working to support human rights and promote nonviolence for 35 years. We send teams of international observers to areas of conflict to provide protective accompaniment to local human rights defenders whose lives and work are under threat. Our work is based on principles of non-partisanship and non-interference, in the belief that lasting transformation of violent conflict cannot be imposed from outside but must be based on the capacity of local people. With your help, we can continue to support Human Rights Defenders.

Thanks guys!

Jack

About the charity

PBI UK provides life-saving support to Human Rights Defenders. Human Rights Defenders risk their livelihoods, their liberty and in many cases their lives fighting for basic rights. PBI stands shoulder to shoulder with at-risk defenders to keep defenders alive and help their activism thrive.
