We seek mental health equality for everyone to end mental ill-health discrimination.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In April 2012 our lives were changed forever when our beloved Sam took the decision to end his own life. Since then life has been extremely hard for his family and friends, but now Jackie & Toni feel they have the strength to help lesson the stigma that surrounds mental health & in particular, suicide.

Jackie & Toni are fundraising for CLASP (Counselling Life Advice, Suicide Prevention) and will be taking part in their 10 mile "Walk out of Darkness" in London on Saturday 11th October.

Mental and Stress related illnesses can be the consequence of many things; financial stress, domestic violence, physical disability, bullying, addiction, shame, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, illegitimacy, victimisation, gender identity, guilt, poor education, ethnicity, faith, illiteracy, religion, cyber bullying, peer pressure, sexual orientation and other daily emotional traumas. The stigma surrounding these conditions coupled with the absence of an effective proactive source of help to prevent people from reaching out and can lead to suicidal thoughts.

Over the last two years over 12,000 people have completed suicide; on average 1 person every 90 minutes. Suicide is Preventable!

CLASP together with its supporters, many who know the pain of what leads a person to attempt suicide and the consequences of suicide for their family, friends and work colleagues, aim to reduce the number of those suffering and attempting suicide in years to come.
