Jacob is severely visually impaired. He has an artificial eye and very limited vision in his remaining eye. Reading and writing is a huge challenge for him and he is still learning Braille which will enable him to read and write independently. 

Living paintings have sent Jacob some wonderful books in Braille and audio format. They make “touch to see” books so they have tactile images so Jacob can “feel” the picture. Jacob always wants to know what the characters/creatures in these books look like so it has been so lovely for him. He’s particularly liked “seeing” the Dinosaur from The Dinosaur that pooped a Planet. 

Jacob has said he will read two books a week to help raise money for this wonderful charity. And two books a week for Jacob is ALOT. If you know him, reading is probably his least favourite thing to do.

Imagine discovering your child will never see; how will they ever be able to play with brothers and sisters, make friends at school or learn to read? But, with the help of our Touch to See books can take part in family life just like their sighted siblings and contemporaries. They will love bedtime stories with mum and dad. Using fingers to explore the feely pictures in Living Paintings special books while listening to their audio descriptions and they will fast develop a different way of seeing. Blind and sighted children will giggle as they find the features of, for instance, the Very Hungry Caterpillar together and his parents will know that though there are difficult times ahead, reading books, having fun with friends and engaging in the classroom are going to be much easier for their precious child thanks to Living Paintings.
