SToRMS: Implementing Strategies To Reduce Male Suicide.

Story

I'll be running the Leeds Half Marathon on Sunday the 13th of May 2018 in memory of my friend Dan McAllister and for the amazing cause set up by Dan's family, SToRMS - The Dan McAllister foundation.

Suicide is the biggest killer of men and women in the UK. According to the Office for National Statistics, 5,668 people in the the UK took their own life; 4,287 of which were men.

This is a horrifying statistic which the great work by SToRMS aims to reduce.

SToRMS’ Mission is to reduce young male suicides by:

1) Facilitating widespread open discussions about suicide

2) Promoting mental well-being and emotional resilience from an early age

3) Challenging gender stereotypes that prevent men from accessing help,

4) Highlighting the relationship between alcohol and mental wellbeing.
