We raise awareness & champion research to help PCD patients get the care they need

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have run the marathon twice before and have raised money for St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth, but have not managed to get in for a while. Since I last did it, several years ago now, I have been trying to get in to raise money for The PCD Family Support Group as my two nephews, Alfie and Eddie, have the rare disease Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia. They are an amazing charity who not only support my nephews, but also their whole family. My nephews are my inspiration for doing this challenge over a decade since the last time. Alfie has had 2/3s of his lung removed due to the illness and Eddie wears hearing aids and they are both prone to respiratory infections because of it. Every day they do physiotherapy (mostly without moaning!) to manage the condition and preserve their lungs, as well as regularly taking antibiotics to prevent infection, and yet every time I see them they are happy and living their lives to the fullest - it's thanks to The PCD Family Support Group (and the amazing PCD team at Southampton Hospital who work closely with them) that they are able to do this. The charity have gone above and beyond in the last year due to the pandemic providing endless support and advice. I hope to once again successfully complete the London Marathon in October this year and raise awareness and money for this amazing charity in doing so!
