We run a twice-weekly drop-in in Wimbledon to help the homeless and vulnerably-housed

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As part of my Bar Mitzvah celebrations I have been encouraged to undertake a Tzedakah project.  The word Tzedakah literally means ‘righteousness’ but is usually interpreted as ‘charity’.  I have decided that I will run at least a mile for every year I have been alive over the course of a week and ask for sponsorship for my efforts.

I want to support a cause that is within my local community and one that is tackling a serious problem that we need to address.  In the UK it is estimated that 1 in every 200 people is homeless (Shelter 2017) and I find that a staggering statistic.  I cannot begin to imagine how hard it would be to live without a home, especially during a bitterly cold winter in a hard city environment.

Faith in Action provide meals, showers, clothes laundry and essential equipment to rough sleepers in the Merton area.  They also provide assistance and support in moving on in life by helping people apply for jobs, access benefit support and find a place to live.  They do all this through donations and generoristy of those that support them.  The money that my Tzedakah project raises will go to keeping the Faith in Action drop in centres supplying these crucial items and services.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. About the charity

We help people in and around the London Borough of Merton who are homeless or rough sleepers. They can have a shower and shave, wash their clothes, have two good meals, and access the internet. Our team of staff and volunteers offers advice and help with job searches and benefit applications.
