I have witnessed every parents and grandparents worst nightmare when 16 month old baby Sam was  recently rushed into the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford very ill.  He was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour and underwent two critical operations lasting 10 hours.

Sam and his family were so fortunate that the neurosurgical team there are some of the best in the world. Without their magical skills our Sam may not be with us today.  I will never forget that feeling of seeing him in such a bad way, the shear trauma his parents and grandparents were going through and that feeling of utter helplessness.

Sam is home now, thank God. But he now faces 12 month of chemotherapy. But when you see his smiling face and giggles you can only be optimistic for his future.  Sadly Sam was not the only sick child at the JR. So the abseil is for all the little bits of equipment they need to help and stimulate sick children in their hour of need.
