I have several patients, friends and their families who have been touched directly on indirectly by cancer and many have been supported through the help and support of one of our local charities ‘Cancer Connections’. They freely give practical advice, physical and emotional support to patients and friends and relatives of those who have been touched by cancer in an unconditional, positive and nurturing environment.

One such friend who will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity of time was Mrs Jean Bruce who was a nurse at our local hospital. As a young mother she was Widowed when Jeff passed away. later on sadly her only son Steven joined his father leaving behind his lovely young wife and two small children who were her pride and joy and later on her own life also to cancer. Jean benefited from the care and support of ‘Cancer Connections’ for herself and supported others through their journeys also.

I also have other friends both young and older who have been and still are many years later being supported through Cancer Connections. Some of them now also offer a valuable support network to others through their own personal experiences. There is nothing quite like hearing it ‘From the Horses Mouth’

During the pandemic Cancer Connections have continued to offer this same unwavering support to all, so I felt that I’d like to offer them support by growing my hair and then having it cut off and donating all funds directly to the charity. 

With many cancer treatments a ladies ‘crowning glory’-her hair is lost- hence the gift. Sadly I would have also gifted the hair, but have been informed that wig manufacturers won’t take grey or white hair as it alters colour during the treatment process and it surprised me greatly that it takes 8 heads of hair to make 1 wig, and long hair real wig can cost around £700 

My plan is to have my waist length hair cut to either shoulder length or shorter pixi cut on Tuesday 9th August 2022 to give me time to increase any possible fundraising to this worthy cause. Please help me make a difference.
