My reason behind choosing Victim Support Scotland to fund raise for is simple.  I was a victim of stalking which resulted in a court case.  The information and help I received from Victim Support Scotland was invaluable.  They went through the whole process from gathering evidence, making reports to police, supporting me in making statements onto the role of the Procurator Fiscal and how to get information plus much much more.  They arranged a court visit so that I would know where to go on the day and also made arrangements for me to give my evidence behind a screen with a Support Worker with me for support.   I had an eight month wait until the court case, I have never been so scared in all my life and Victim Support Scotland was with me all the way.  I was lucky and the perpetrator pled guilty the day before the court case so I didn’t have to attend, many others are not so lucky. 

I had initially chosen the mile swim as I am a keen swimmer, albeit only doing breast stroke.  So the challenge for me is to complete the mile doing freestyle which I only started learning last year.  I have progressed from learning the freestyle stroke to swimming lengths at the pool to practice sessions at Knockburn Loch and training is going well.  I was surprised that the psychological challenge is as big as the physical challenge, swimming in open water is a completely different kettle of fish (see what I did there!).  I just hope the piranhas and sharks leave me alone on the day!
