Story
Just to let you know a little about Dystonia.......
Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder characterised by sustained painful muscle spasms. Dystonia affects men, women and children of all ages and ethnic groups. The muscle spasms cause abnormal movements and postures, such as involuntary closing of eyelids, twisting of the neck or loss of function of speech muscles.
Cases of childhood dystonia are particularly distressing as the spasms are likely to spread throughout the body.
Though there is not cure for dystonia the condition can be successfully managed in many cases. Botulinum toxin injections can be very effective in counteracting muscle spasms. A range of drugs can also be helpful in certain cases. In more serious cases, surgery is used.
I have chosen to fundraise for the Dystonia Socitety because three members of my friend's family has it.
The sponsored walk is organised by a company called Action Challenge. I am self funding the trip, so that ALL the money you give will go directly to the Charity.
I will also be organising a few concerts between now and April, so hopefully see you at one or two of them...
