We aim to reduce poverty in Africa to help people have sustainable livelihoods

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We both work for Tools for Self Reliance, an amazing charity which enables people living in some of the poorest communities in Africa to learn a trade and earn a sustainable living. We do this by working with local partners in country to run programmes of training in trades such as carpentry, welding, and auto mechanics, and supporting people to set up their own business. We equip people with a start up kit of tools - donated here in the UK and refurbished and packed by our network of over 700 volunteers.

We know what a lifeline being able to earn an income is. It means being able to buy more and better food for the family, improving housing conditions, paying children's school fees, and accessing medical care. It makes a real and immediate difference.

We decided to sign up for Tough Mudder back in January, when September seemed so very far away, and since then have been committed to a full on training regime combining demanding physical exercise* with a scientifically proven balanced diet plan**

All of which will be worthwhile if we can raise much needed funds to enable more people to change their lives, and that of their families and communities. Thank you for your support!

*Jemma got signed up for boot camp, Clare joined the gym and bought kettlebells

** Primarily chocolate covered rice cakes
