Update 12 April 2011
Friends,
I have just completed Paris Marathon and eagerly looking forward to London Marathon this weekend (17 April)
I continue, to support the work of Co-Operation Ireland and hope you can sponsor me. Thanks and best wishes. Jer
On 8th October, I had the pleasure of reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest free standing mountain, rising to 19,341. I was climbing with a group of 35 others and the picture above details the proud moment in which we, the Irish contingent, reached the top for sun rise.
This event, along with running 5 marathons in 2010 and taking part in the Artemis Challenge (133km, 1 day cycling event) is primarily driven to raise vital funds for two very deserving causes.
This year, I continue to support the crucial work of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust & Co-Operation Ireland.
Co-Operation Ireland
Co-operation Ireland is the leading peace-building charity on the island of Ireland. Their mission is to 'advance mutual understanding and respect by promoting practical co-operation between the people of Northern Ireland and of the Republic of Ireland'. Programmes involve linking groups in the following areas and sectors:
Schools and universities, youth and community groups, Local authorities, Media, Local and central government, Businesses and business networking/training organisations
Since it was established in 1979, Co-operation Ireland has created opportunities for groups from the two main religious communities in Northern Ireland and from both sides of the border to come together so they can learn about each other's traditions and cultural backgrounds in order to help build a society which is based on tolerance and acceptance of cultural difference.
The Cure Parkinson's Trust.
This charity, which was founded by a friend of mine, Tom Isaacs, and has a clear goal of finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease by investing in under resourced and under funded projects that offer a real hope of a cure in the future. Tom was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at the age of 27. Tom is so determined to find a cure and raise awareness that in 2007 he embarked on a 4,500 mile walk around the coastline of Britain. I have proudly supported this charity for over 4 years, and continue to believe in their amazing dedication to the Parkinson’s cause.
I would be most grateful of you would consider a donation to my charitable/sporting activities for the advancement of these great causes. I have covered all participation costs personally for the Kilimanjaro trip/cycle/marathons, so rest assured, as ever, 100% of the donations will reach the chosen charities.
