Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

William says...... WE DID IT! Read on............

My story is this:

I was born with a deformed heart which was very messed up. My condition is called "double inlet left ventricle" but it's easier to say that I've got half a heart - the right side never grew. So after surgery I have a circular circulation system - instead of a figure 8 - and aorta and pulmonary artery come out of the left ventricle.I've had 2 keyhole (catheterisations) and 2 open heart bypass ops. But honestly, thats nothing compared to most of the kids (and their families) who belong to the charity I'm trying to raise some money for. Some have other problems too like Downs Syndrome or learning difficulties. Others are in and out of hospital all the time.  I'm really one of the lucky ones, and at 13 years old am in pretty good nick. So I am going to attempt to do the London to Brighton Bike Ride next Sunday June the 20th in order to raise some funds for the charity ECHO (Evelina Children's Heart Organisation) which does a lot to help kids like me and their families. Please sponsor me by the mile (60 miles, but I might not get all the way) or just donate anything you can.

If giving is painful on your pocket, just think how sore my bum's going to be! Ha Ha,

Love,  William Burton

P.S.

We made it! We arrived at the Pier at 1 o’clock having left Clapham Common at 6am. (Don’t ask what time we had to get up to drive up there!)

Conditions were pretty perfect with a cool Northerly at our backs although the extraordinary number of cyclists everywhere was daunting to begin with. We journeyed with our good friends Ol, Jen and Gray and Will’s good friend, Bop who had done the run before; and it was good to be with old hands. Going up was, of course, painful; coming down was dangerous and exhilarating. Ditchling Beacon was a bastard - even on foot, but the descent from there into was a buzz. Tired, tired legs, and sore buttocks.             J.

How did Will do?

Admittedly, I was quite nervous in the run up to the cycle, but on the day everything went according to plan and once I got into the swing of things, I was fine.

It was a hard cycle but I kept my legs turning and with support from my friends and Dad, made it to the end.

I hope that in future years, I will be able to try the to Bike Ride again and enjoy it as much as I have this time.

Thanks so much for all the generous donations guys. I’m amazed by it, I really am!

Thanks for all the great support from fantastic friends and family.

TO ROCKS (and hurts)!

From Will

The amount of interest, sponsorship and donations to ECHO has been huge. We can’t really believe how astonishingly generous everyone has been. Will will have raised around £2,300.00 (including off-line donations)at the time of writing. We are astounded and very thankful to all who sponsored or donated on http://www.justgiving.com/Jeremy-Burton

(Where those that haven’t and feel the urge to may still give.) The messages have been a joy, too.

A HUGE HUG and MASSIVE THANKS to you all.
