Story

When Sebastian, Craig's son and Jeremy's nephew, was diagnosed with a chromosome abnormality at the age of 18 months we were told that he would never walk or talk.  In the last two years he has been attending Rocklands School and during this time he has progressed massively and is now not only able to walk but to run and has an emerging vocabulary.  This is a direct result of the care and dedication of the staff of Rocklands School.

Rocklands School is based in Lichfield in the UK and offers provision for children with a wide range of special educational needs including those with autistic spectrum disorder and profound and multiple learning difficulties.  The school is state funded which unfortunately does not allow for additional facilities and the parents struggle to help bridge the gap.

Along with two friends we have decided to cycle from London to Lausanne this June to raise money for a specialist cycle track within the school grounds and specifically adapted bikes like the one Sebbie is on in the photo.  Not only is this for the children’s fun it is also crucial to their physical development to help their low muscle tone and balance in a safe environment.  We are hoping to raise £5,000.

London to Lausanne is a huge challenge for us not least because we each have to pedal a significant mass 670 miles, or 1075 km, crossing a number of French and Swiss mountains in the process!  We leave London on Saturday 29th May and, all being well, plan to arrive at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne a week later.

On behalf of all the children at Rocklands, thank you so much for supporting us in raising some much needed funds for them and their school.  For your interest, the school’s website address is www.rocklands.staffs.sch.uk and the charity number is 514948.

Many thanks for your support and generosity.
