Story
“TO AGRA WITH LOVE”
Rajasthan Cycle Challenge 6th to 15 December 2013
Along with 15 other brave souls, I will cycle 418 kilometres (approximately 260 miles) over 6 days, 2 of which will include 115 kilometres per day.
To prepare for this Challenge, I have not only pushed the limits of my endurance, but I have had tremendous support from three very special people, my trainer Melanie and two friends Elizabeth and Sara. I know that they will continue to help me achieve this journey. But now I also need YOUR help!
To prepare, I bought a new Specialised Carve expert 29 inch mountain bike and it’s now my pride and joy and I feel very lost when I am not out exploring the Surrey countryside ( see pictures below!!!).
But apart from seeking to acquire the body of an “elite athlete”!!!!, I am undertaking this challenge for an amazing charity, Young Epilepsy. I have been volunteering in their Fundraising Department for nearly two years and have learnt so much about what they do.
Young Epilepsy is the only charity in the UK who works solely for children and young people with epilepsy. Epilepsy is disorientating and distressing, especially for children. The impact of the condition, and the medication that even small children have to take, is profound - particularly on memory and learning. Epilepsy can also be life threatening and brings extreme anxiety to children and their families.
The charity’s Surrey campus is home to world renowned professors in paediatric epilepsy; epilepsy nurses; specialist teaching staff; therapists and psychologists. At their residential school and college they provide tailored education for children whose epilepsy is so complex they need to be educated within reach of a medical centre - some whose condition means they have to stay at Young Epilepsy every day, 52 weeks of the year.
Apart from helping raise money for this incredible charity, the Rajasthan Cycle Challenge will allow me to experience the life and culture of India at first hand. This bike ride will take me to more remote locations than most other modes of transport and bring me into direct contact to the country and its people.
I hope after reading this you are feeling motivated to sponsor me – I really will be pushing myself to the limits for this charity and I would like to raise as much as possible for them so they can continue their life changing work.
THANK YOU
