The Scott Dunn Polar Challenge - April 2005 - Team Pegasus
'A most incredible journey through an awesome, spectacular wilderness. Not just a race, but also a personal challenge for each individual.' Jo Molyneaux, 2005 competitor. (Quote on main page of the Polar Challenge Website)

I have now completed the Scott Dunn Polar Challenge, which is 'the World's most extreme land race' to Magnetic North Pole, as featured in the BBC 2 TV documentary 'North Pole: The Challenge'
I camped, skied and survived 21 days of camping and racing on the frozen sea ice of the High Arctic, arriving at Magnetic North Pole at 21.00 on Saturday 7th May 2005 and completing the race on Sunday 8th May 2005.
The race crossed 320 miles of extreme arctic terrain during which time I pulled a 90 kg sledge containing everything I needed to survive in these extreme conditions. Temperatures was generally around -20°C with a low of close to -50 in an area populated by 80% of the World's POLAR BEARS!
My time on the ice can only be described as totally awesome. Nothing will ever be quite the same again. I challenged my fears (I dislike the cold and lost much sleep worrying about Polar Bears), lived an 18-month dream and experienced the most incredible journey through an awesome and changeable wilderness. I am truly privileged.
This has been a fantastic opportunity to raising funds for a truly worthwhile cause - The Genesis Appeal (www.genesisuk.org)
Since establishing this justgiving.com site in September 2004, I have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support of so many wonderful friends, colleagues and strangers.
The inspiration to fundraise for Genesis initiated from a promise I made to Judi, who lost her battle with breast cancer in October 2003. Since then Jillian and Janet, who have both battled against this terrible disease, have provided further inspiration and an immense amount of support. Sadly, following a breast cancer free year, Janet's battle has begun again. Janet: never forget that your friends and colleagues are with you every step of the way. Keep strong and keep fighting.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please, please donate if you can to this most worthwhile charity.
Many thanks for your continued support.
A special thank you to AstraZeneca for a generous donation of £1000 in September 05
