Story

Dear everyone,

As most of you already know, I came to Nepal, where I am staying for a few weeks to help The Mountain Trust to help this amazing country.

This is my first resolution for 2014 and I am already here giving some of my time to those who live in a country which is regarded as one of the poorest and least developed in the world, where one-quarter of its population live below the poverty line.

When we arrive in Nepal, we feel a scary but challenging feeling of "where from and how" can we help this country, as there is so much to do!

Well, I am here as a fundraiser for The Mountain Trust, to help 10 blind students from the Amar Singh High School of Pokhara to successfully complete the High School.

Despite the efforts of the Nepali Government in the last decades to soar the literacy in Nepal, by building primary and secondary schools, even in some rural areas, the truth is that half the students who attend the primary school fail to finish. At the same time still less than one third of Nepalis attend secondary school.

Amar Singh High School , as many other Government Schools in Nepal, host many students who are from distant rural areas. These students couldn't go to school daily for obvious reasons of accessibility by public transport or even by foot as most of them are dozens of miles away from any school.

However, apparently, there’s not much the Government can do after the GCSEs. These students have to leave without completing high school as the schools can't afford their stay.

I met these ten students, that are not only from distant rural areas, coming from very poor families who live from subsistence farming, but they are blind too. These students have lost sight at the age of two, three or five because of Typhoid or unknown infections when they were living with their families in the rural areas.

Regardless of lack of funds, to buy a pen or paper, these students don't want money. They told me they would just like to have an opportunity to finish the remaining two years they have at High School

As the school can't help, I hope you and I together can make a small contribution to The Mountain Trust to help this school to create the conditions these students need to stay and to complete their education giving them hope to have a better future.

Please help me help the Mountain Trust. If you could spare a few quid to support this school, it would be much appreciated. It won't hurt you nor won't make you poorer.

You can follow this webpage and donate whatever you can, or buy one or more of the pictures that I will be uploading on my facebook profile and Tumblr during my stay here, whenever possible for obvious reasons.

The link to the Just Giving page is below, and donations will be quickly processed and passed along to The Mountain Trust, which is eligible for this type of fundraising.
