Luckily since retirement I have enjoyed good health. This has allowed me, a retired accountant, to travel to many corners of the world and to participate in numerous adventures.

Most will know that many of my adventures have also raised respectable sums for various charities – I always found my efforts far less painful than that suffered by friends and colleagues who put their hands in their pockets to support me.

Time for the next (and probably my boldest) adventure before age finally says no more stupidity. All is booked for a trip to Everest Base Camp in October this year – 20 of us of varying abilities (over half of which are senior medical professionals) all with the primary aim to get up there to 17,600 feet high and then back safely.

The personal achievement will be immense. However more important is that we all will be raising some serious cash to support Mary Ann Hospice in Nuneaton. They are the main provider of vital palliative and end of life services to North Warwickshire and beyond. Mary Ann massively needs all of our help if it is to continue to support the many thousands of patients and their carers who need their care through some of life’s most difficult challenges. In particular, the Rapid Response team, which provides new and innovative care in the patient’s own homes in their last hours, has sizeably expanding to a 24/7 service. This vital service can only continue at this level with additional funding.

All funds raised from the trek will go direct to clinical services as all trekkers will be self-funded.
