We aim to conserve Upper Teesdale's flora to ensure these rare plants survive

Story

The wild flora of Upper Teesdale is very special. There is an unusually large number of rare plants growing there, including a unique mixture of arctic-alpine species and species with a more southern distribution. Most of the rare species have been declining in recent decades. Wild plant conservation in general is under-resourced. Margaret's project involves mapping where the plants grow in detail which will help us target conservation effort effectively and investigating the best methods of conserving the flora for the future.

About the charity

These plants are important - Dr Margaret Bradshaw established the Trust to help conserve the special rare plants of Teesdale. Now 94 years old, she wants her legacy of six decades of recording to continue. Results will help to guide decisions on land use and give valuable insights into climate change effects.
