How many famous people do you know who suffered from Parkinsons? Try my quiz at the link above and find out.

Just arrived back this morning(24/05/11) still tired from travelling and trek. The Trek was amazing scenery absolutely fantastic. Suffered some headaches from the altitutude and the days were tiring also had a couple of scary moments as I dont like heights. I am delighted to have achieved it. If you still wish to sponsor me I would be very grateful. Thank you for your sponsorship and support.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In March 2007 I was diagnosed with Parkinsons and in some ways its been a difficult four years. It has led to me only thinking about trying to keep the life that I have and not thinking about taking on anything new. Now its time for a challenge. I am going to Peru to trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

This involves trekking 4-5 days for up to 10 hours a day at altitude(4200m at the highest point).

My Parkinsons affects my right side. I have lost some of the dexterity in my hand as well as some strength in my arm. I also sometimes drag my heel when I walk. It also disrupts my sleeping. When I started training last year I didn’t know if I had the stamina for the Trek and being an asthmatic as well the altitude might be very difficult for me. Achieving the recommended standards of fitness has been a challenge but has gone well. I have trained with regular walking, cycling and running. I have lost a stone in weight and it has helped my sleeping.

This is a chance for me to contribute to Parkinsons UK who have supported me since my diagnosis . They provide information, support, specialist nurses and fund research. My target is to raise £6000 sponsorship.
