I will be running the New York Marathon - (26.2 Miles) across the five Boroughs of NYC -
The Bronx BrooklynDate - Sunday 7th November 2010 for the Prostate Cancer Charity.
My grandfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2006 and passed away in December 2009, the cause of death being Metastatic Prostate Carcinoma. He lived with me for the majority of the last two years of his life and I was with him in the final moments of his life. Being part of a five-a-side football team and speaking to my team mates (there are around 20 of us in the group) only 2 members of the team had heard of prostate cancer. I also found the same lack of awareness among the men of my age group in my place of employment.
After seeing how this disease affected my grandfather and finding out the lack of knowledge among men of my age group have in relation to prostate cancer, I decided I wanted to raise awareness. Running the marathon for The Prostate Caner Charity will enable be to do this. I’d also like to focus my energy and motivation into doing something positive and well meaning in remembrance of my grandfather. I am sincerely honoured to have been offered a place.
