I live about as far away from the sea as you can get - so it's no surprise that my favorite charity is the RNLI.
Everyone knows about lifeboats - but the sheer scale of the RNLI's operations is awesome. Last year there were over 9000 lifeboat launches from 235 lifeboat stations rescuing 8000 people. Another 16,000 people were assisted by RNLI lifeguards on 140 beaches around the UK and Ireland.
This isn't cheap - it costs about £125m per year to run the lifeboat service and this is achieved entirely through voluntary donations - the government doesn't contribute anything. So I'm keen to support this excellent organisation.
I will be entering the Isle of Wight Randonnee this year - this is a 100km cycle ride around the Isle of Wight taking place on 2nd of May. 100km is quite a long way to ride in one day and the Isle of Wight is disappointingly hilly. I have three targets:
1. To complete the ride
2. To raise as much as I can for the RNLI
3. To sit down again within a week
In return I can offer you two rewarding experiences right here on Just Giving. You can help the RNLI and - through Gift Aid - you can prevent Alistair, George or Vince, as the case may be, from getting their hands on a least some of your hard-earned money.
Thanks for visiting this page and for your support.
