When I went to Oxford to read Medicine, many of my friends were not typically "Oxford people".  I saw the value of a wide social and cultural mixture. This is important in medicine and in many other disciplines. We need to encourage students from diverse backgrounds to try for admission to Oxford, and support them with funding if required.
